Community Vaccine Pledge

Join the Black community to take action

Evidence from Statistics Canada shows that Black Canadians are the population most affected by the Health consequences of COVID 19, including mortality. Black people are more likely to have underlying health conditions such as diabetes that could increase the health consequences of the virus. In addition, most Black people tend to work essential jobs that require them to interact with the public without adequate safety support, thus putting them at a greater risk of getting infected. Evidence also shows that the Black populations have lower rates of intending to get vaccinated.

Due to widespread misinformation about the vaccine, the Federation of Black Canadians, Black Physicians of Canada, The Coalition of African Caribbean and Black Nurses in British Columbia, African Communities of Manitoba Inc., Black in Saskatchewan, and BC Community Alliance believe further education around the COVID-19 vaccines and the benefits of being vaccinated is a great way to ensure we are lowering case rates in the Black Community. We encourage everyone to do their own research and follow up with medical experts to learn more. We as a collective believe vaccines are the best option to curve the rates but respect everyone’s right to choose.
