The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) is thrilled to announce the call for nominations for our prestigious awards to be presented at the upcoming Impact Gala. This event is a celebration of the remarkable achievements and contributions of the Black community in Canada. We invite you to nominate outstanding individuals who exemplify excellence, dedication, and impact in various fields. Below are the details of each award and the criteria for selection.
Awards and Selection Criteria
1. Promising Athlete Award
Criteria:
- Demonstrates exceptional talent and potential in their chosen sport.
- Exhibits sportsmanship, dedication, and a strong work ethic.
- Serves as a positive role model within the community.
2. Excellence as an Educator (Presented by Kolden Simmonds and Martina Simmonds Besterio from Trust Fund Babies)
Criteria:
- Displays outstanding commitment to education and the academic success of students.
- Implements innovative teaching methods and inspires a love of learning.
- Contributes to the betterment of educational standards and practices.
- Teachers should be teaching grades 9-12 in Canada, and also be involved with improving the community(volunteering, coaching, nonprofit work, etc)
3. Excellence as a Student (Presented by Kolden Simmonds and Martina Simmonds Besterio from Trust Fund Babies)

Students should be in grades 9-12 in Canada.

The student nominee should be participating in a form of extracurricular activities( athletics, arts, working, etc).

They should also be involved in their community via Volunteer work, working in the community and working towards bettering the communities they are involved with.
4. Excellence in Black Advocacy
Criteria:
- Actively advocates for the rights and advancement of Black individuals and communities.
- Engages in impactful activism, policy-making, or community organizing.
- Demonstrates leadership and a strong commitment to social justice
5. Community Impact Award (Presented by Black Entrepreneurship Alliance)
Criteria:
- Makes significant contributions to the betterment of the community through service, outreach, or volunteerism.
- Demonstrates a sustained commitment to addressing community needs and challenges.
- Has a measurable and positive impact on community well-being.
6. Young Black Entrepreneur (Presented by Nobellum)
Criteria:
- Shows exceptional entrepreneurial spirit and innovation in business ventures.
- Demonstrates business acumen, leadership, and growth potential.
- Positively impacts the community through business practices and initiatives.
7. Black Builder Award (Presented by Black Founders Network)
Criteria:
- A Black Builder member who demonstrates leadership, innovation, and exceptional talent in their community/organization
- Demonstrates a commitment to creating inclusive and sustainable environments.
- Plays a key role in significant projects that benefit the community.
8. Community Health Award
Criteria:
- Shows exceptional dedication to improving health outcomes within the Black community.
- Engages in health education, advocacy, or the provision of healthcare services.
- Demonstrates innovative approaches to addressing health disparities.
9. Exceptional Allyship Award (Presented by Mansha Plan)
Criteria:
- Non-Black individuals or organizations who have shown unwavering support and allyship to the Black community.
- Actively works towards racial equity and inclusion.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to advocacy, solidarity, and support for Black causes.
How to Nominate
To nominate an individual or organization, please submit the following:
- A completed nomination form (linked above).
- A detailed description of the nominee’s achievements and contributions relevant to the award.
- Any supporting documents, such as letters of recommendation, articles, or testimonials.
Deadline for Nominations
All nominations must be submitted by August 30th, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET. We encourage you to take this opportunity to recognize and honor the incredible individuals who are making a difference in our community.
