Empowering Financial Futures: FBC’s Insightful Initiatives with WealthSimple Foundation

On August 3rd, the Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) in partnership with WealthSimple Foundation organized an engaging and insightful Instagram Live event titled How to make your money work for you. The event, which drew a significant online audience, centered on the critical topic of financial management during challenging economic times, specifically addressing strategies to save money both during a recession and for unforeseen rainy days. This educational initiative was designed to empower individuals with practical knowledge and expert insights to help them navigate financial uncertainties.

The event was interactively hosted by the Youth Engagement Associate at WealthSimple Foundation, Zhane Stimpson and Debra Olaniyi. The panel for this event featured a Senior Analyst from Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Timi Osemobor and a seasoned Portfolio Advisor from RBC, Fatah Kadiri. They both shared their valuable expertise on prudent investment and savings practices.

Key takeaways from the event included the importance of building a good credit score, diversifying investment portfolios, and embracing a long-term perspective when it comes to managing personal finances. FBC’s participation in WealthSimple Foundation’s Day on August 17th was a remarkable and enriching experience that highlighted the importance of financial literacy and education, particularly for youth. Some of FBC’s staff members made their way to the WealthSimple office in Toronto, where they spent the day engaging in activities aimed at equipping young individuals with the essential knowledge and resources necessary to make sound financial decisions.

During the event, the youth in attendance had the opportunity to participate in valuable activities, such as resume building workshops, which are crucial for enhancing their employability and career prospects. They also learned about the intricacies of budgeting and saving, which are fundamental skills for managing personal finances effectively. One of the highlights of the day was a special address from Michael Katchen, the founder of WealthSimple, who shared insights and inspiration about the world of finance.

This partnership with WealthSimple Foundation underscores FBC’s commitment to empowering the next generation with the financial skills they need to succeed in an ever-evolving economic landscape. It was a day filled with learning, motivation, and the shared goal of creating a financially empowered and resilient future for the next generation.
