The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) is proud to announce that we have officially received registered charity status in Canada. This marks a historic and transformational milestone in our journey toward advancing equity, opportunity, and wellbeing for Black communities across the country. With this new status: 

  • We can now issue charitable tax receipts for donations, making it easier and more rewarding for individuals and organizations to support our mission. 
  • We’re eligible for a wider range of grants and funding opportunities, including those that are only open to registered charities, allowing us to expand our reach and scale our programs. 
  • We gain stronger credibility and public trust as a nationally recognized charitable organization advocating for the advancement of Black Canadians.
  • We can deepen partnerships with community groups, businesses, and government agencies looking to support Black-led charitable work in Canada.

Toronto, ON, July 3, 2024 — The Federation of Black Canadians announces the results of the ‘Resilience Throughout COVID-19’ project by the University of Toronto. This study highlights the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black communities in Canada, revealing high infection severity, stigma, and long recovery times. Key findings emphasize the need for culturally relevant health education and stronger community partnerships to address systemic issues and promote equitable health outcomes.

At Collision this year, the Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) proudly collaborated with our fellow Black-led and Black-serving organizations to bring “The Black Innovation Zone” to the conference for the first time. Our participation highlighted the incredible achievements of the startups and entrepreneurs who have benefited from our Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP). These inspiring individuals shared their experiences as emerging entrepreneurs in the Canadian corporate market, highlighting how the BEP provided them with the necessary resources, tools, and skills to succeed.
