The FBC youth council is recruiting members to its executive council. Individuals from Western, Eastern, and Northern Canada are encouraged to apply. 

The FBC Youth Council is looking for candidates between the ages of 16-29 who possess a genuine passion for empowering Black communities. Ideal candidates for all positions will also possess

  • Interpersonal Communication Skills
  • Photography Skills
  • Videography Skills
  • Content Creation and Social Media

We acknowledge the diversity within Canada’s Black community and encourage members from low-income, 2SLGBTQA+, (dis)abled, and francophone communities to apply for executive positions

Communication Lead

Activities and Tasks:

  • Works closely with Community Outreach Team
  • Manages mailing list 
  • Collaborate with FBC’s communication team to create social media content 

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Profile:

  • Experience in working group settings
  • Strong skills in communication, collaboration, media relations 
  • A passion for community relations and community development

Outreach Leads

Activities and Tasks:

  • Work towards  growing awareness about the FBC among ACB youth 
  • Expanding the FBC youth councils visibility (newsletters, social media presence/strategy, creating a database of youth community groups around Canada). 
  • Compiling a list of Partners in Principle for the Youth Council 

Working on the creation of a special committee for Black Student-led University

  • A passion for community outreach  and community development 
  • Creativity and ability to think outside the box
  • Experience in working group settings
  • Strong skills in communication, collaboration, media relations

  • Compile research about key priority areas into documents 
  • Create an inventory of Black organizations working on key priority areas 
  • Research government’s commitments to Black communities in order to keep them accountable (provincial and federal)

Brainstorms and suggest creative ways within which research can be used 

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Profile:

  • Knowledgeable about the issues facing young Black Canadians 
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • A passion for community development

Toronto, ON, July 3, 2024 — The Federation of Black Canadians announces the results of the ‘Resilience Throughout COVID-19’ project by the University of Toronto. This study highlights the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black communities in Canada, revealing high infection severity, stigma, and long recovery times. Key findings emphasize the need for culturally relevant health education and stronger community partnerships to address systemic issues and promote equitable health outcomes.
