A Recap of the Impact Gala 2023 by FBCFCN & Skills for Life

On September 23rd 2023 over 250 supporters, allies, partners, and participants came together to celebrate the accomplishments of Skills for Life (SFL) and the Federation of Black Canadians (FBC). Although the Impact Gala has come and gone, we are sure it left a lasting mark on all who attended. It was an evening to remember, filled with moments of connection and excitement.

The gala began with a lively cocktail reception, offering guests a chance to mingle while enjoying appetizers and drinks. Social games added excitement and friendly competition. Spectacular entertainment included live performances by artists like Jully Black, the Recipee, Joy Pius, and Tobias, leaving a lasting impression. Additionally, the silent auction provided an opportunity for guests to bid on exclusive items and experiences.

However, the main highlight was the Support for Student Learning Program (SSLP). In 2022-23 after piloting the SSLP program in Brampton ON through SFL, FBC was able to take the program across Canada to 5 provinces and engage over 150 youth providing mentorship, life skills, academic, and physical and mental wellness supports, as well as over $250,000 in educational bursaries.

While the program was a great success and we were thankful for the Government of Canada’s support in year 1, we decided to raise funds to continue year 2 of the program while efforts to get the government to refund the program continue. We are pleased to share that we have raised over $40,000 and counting and all the proceeds go towards funding the SSLP organized by both organizations.

Even though the gala has concluded, the opportunity to make a difference continues. You can still contribute and be a part of the ongoing impact by making a donation. Your support is invaluable, and together, we can continue driving positive change. If you would like to support please visit theskills4life.ca or fbcfcn.ca and make a donation.
