Federation of Black Canadians and Skills for Life Announces 2nd Annual Impact Gala Fundraising Event

Toronto, August 7, 2024 — The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) and Skills for Life (SFL) is thrilled to announce its annual Impact Gala Fundraising Event, scheduled for September 21, 2024, at Dreams Convention Center 75  Hedgedale, Brampton, On . This prestigious event will celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of Black Canadians across various sectors and support FBC’s and SFLs ongoing initiatives to empower and uplift communities in Canada.

The Impact Gala will feature a night of inspiring speeches, live entertainment, a live and a glamorous awards ceremony.

Event Highlights:

  • Awards Ceremony: Honoring individuals and organizations in categories including Promising Athlete Award, Excellence as an Educator, Excellence in Black Advocacy, Community Impact Award, Young Black Entrepreneur, Black Builder, Community Health, and Exceptional Allyship, Volunteer Award.
  • Entertainment Lineup: This night will feature a cast of black entertainers.  Hosted by Femi Lawson, we will be featuring musical performances, violinists, comedians, poets and a DJ. Showcasing Black Canadian talent at its best.

  • Formal Sit-Down Dinner: Indulge in a gourmet dining experience with a carefully curated menu designed to delight your taste buds.
  • Special Giveaways: Enjoy exclusive giveaways throughout the night, with exciting prizes.

“We are excited to host our Impact Gala, a night dedicated to recognizing the remarkable achievements of Black Canadians and the vital work being done within our communities,” said Christopher Thompson, Executive Director of the Federation of Black Canadians and Skills for Life. “This event is not just a celebration but a call to action to continue our efforts in promoting equality, justice, and opportunity for all.”

Proceeds from the Impact Gala will support FBC and SFL programs, including educational initiatives, health advocacy, community development projects, and more. Primarily the Supports for Student Learning and our Black Entrepreneurship Program. These efforts are crucial in addressing the systemic challenges faced by Black Canadians and fostering an inclusive society.

Breaking down barriers that Black youth face by offering after-school tutoring, mentorship, and holistic learning to enhance academic success, providing bursaries to overcome financial barriers, and guiding them towards diverse postsecondary education and career opportunities.
