The Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) and McCarthy Tétrault LLP have initiated a class action against the Toronto Police Service for the practice of “Carding,” a tactic that has disproportionately targeted and harassed Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities. Carding involves stopping individuals without reasonable suspicion of criminal activity, requesting their personal information, and documenting it in a police database.

This class action is seeking prospective members who identify as Black, First Nations, Inuit, or Métis and who have been impacted by Carding since 2011. Individuals who were under the age of 18 at the time of the Carding experience, even if it occurred prior to 2011, may also be eligible to join the class.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this practice, we invite you to share your experience by completing this form. Your participation may support this important legal action and help bring attention to the harm caused by Carding.
