On February 6, the Federation of Black Canadians hosted the Black Leadership and Recognition Breakfast which brought together changemakers, innovators, and community builders for a powerful morning of connection, reflection, and recognition. This year’s gathering was a true celebration of Black excellence, highlighting individuals whose leadership continues to shape stronger, more resilient communities across Canada.
Centered around this year’s theme, “Tackling Youth Unemployment Together,” the event created space for meaningful dialogue on one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities today. Through shared insights, lived experiences, and collaborative solutions, attendees explored how we can collectively support Black youth in accessing sustainable career pathways and opportunities.
A Morning of Purpose and Community
The purpose of the Black Leadership Breakfast is rooted in recognition and connection. It creates a space where leaders can be seen, celebrated, and supported, while also inspiring the next generation to step into their own leadership journeys.
In alignment with this year’s theme, conversations throughout the morning emphasized the importance of mentorship, employer partnerships, and creating equitable access to opportunities for Black youth.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from an incredible lineup of panelists who shared their experiences, insights, and perspectives on leadership, career growth, and community impact. This year’s speakers included:
- Stefany Hanson, Interim Executive Director at CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals
- Raquel Reid, YESS Program Manager at the Federation of Black Canadians
- Karina Deepnarine, Undergraduate Student at York University
- Damion Douglas, Relationship Manager, Business Markets at RBC
Their reflections reinforced the importance of representation, mentorship, and collective action in addressing youth unemployment.
