Black Leadership and Recognition Breakfast Event Awards

We are pleased to announce that in partnership with United Way Greater Toronto, the Federation of Black Canadians (FBC), is relaunching the Black Leadership and Recognition Breakfast Event (BLRBE) Awards. This long-standing tradition provides a platform to:

  1. Create opportunities to pay homage and recognize members of the Black Community who might not otherwise be acknowledged
  2. Learn about people and groups doing great work in the Black Community.

United Way has announced the return of the BLRBE to take place in person on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 – 9:30 AM to 11:30 am. Award Types:

Community Leadership Award:

This award seeks to recognize and reward a member of the Black community residing in Peel/Toronto and/or York Region.  Nominees should exemplify the mission and values of the United Way of Greater Toronto and the Federation of Black Canadians. Ideal candidates should showcase outstanding civic and philanthropic leadership through unwavering loyalty and commitment to the success of specific projects that address the needs of the Black community. Additionally, nominees must have encouraged and motivated others to take similar leadership roles to create lasting change at the local level.

Youth Leadership Award:

This award aims to honour an emerging young leader between the ages of 18-29 years from the Black Community. Nominees should embody the mission and values of the United Way of Greater Toronto and the Federation of Black Canadians. Exceptional candidates will demonstrate outstanding civic leadership through unwavering loyalty and commitment to the success of specific projects in the Black community, particularly those relevant to youth. They should have also encouraged and motivated others to take on leadership roles to create lasting change at the local level.

Leadership in Business Award:

This award seeks to recognize and reward an individual or business in Peel/Toronto and/or York Region that has made significant contributions to the economic and social well-being of the Black community. The nominee should demonstrate dedication to the mission and values of the United Way of Greater Toronto and be seen as a leader in finding innovative ways to do business while creating a lasting impact for the community. Moreover, the nominee should exhibit investment in the community and view community involvement as an essential part of their company’s values.

Impact Facts:

  • The nominations  have been extended to January 19th at11:59 pm EST
  • The nominee must live or work in the GTA (York, Peel or Toronto).
  • Nominators do not need to be from the GTA
  • Self-nomination is not permitted.
  • All information provided will be verified through references and followups 
  • Achievements must have occurred before January 1, 2024.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Awards will be presented to the winners at the BLRBE on February 2nd, 2024
