Federation of Black Canadians Announces Black Leadership Breakfast: Unlocking the Potential of the Next Generation
Mississauga, Ontario — January 13 2026 — The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) is hosting its upcoming Black Leadership Breakfast, this Black History Month. An event bringing together visionaries and community builders. This year, the event focuses on a mission of empowerment and economic growth under the theme: “Tackling Black Youth Unemployment Together.”
As a national organization, FBC holds Employment Development as one of its core pillars. While the current Black youth unemployment rate of 23.5%—compared to 12% for non-racialized youth—highlights a clear gap, FBC views this as an opportunity for strategic investment and collective action to unlock the immense talent within the Black community.
“Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the innovators and entrepreneurs of today,” says Christopher Thompson, Executive Director of the Federation of Black Canadians. “At FBC, we don’t just see a statistic—we see a wealth of untapped potential. Our goal is to move from conversation to collaboration, ensuring that every young Black Canadian has a clear pathway to a thriving career. We are proud of the work we’ve done, and we are just getting started.”
Tickets are available today.
A Proven Track Record of Impact
FBC’s commitment to this cause is backed by historic results and measurable success. Through strategic partnerships and dedicated funding, FBC has already made significant strides:
- Empowering Entrepreneurs: Through the Black Youth Action Plan FBC has supported 80+ Black founders with $450,000 to hire Black youth across Ontario.
- Investing in Startups: Over $40,000 in micro-contributions has been awarded to help Black-owned businesses jumpstart their ventures and create direct jobs for youth.
- Skill Building: The Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP) has supported over 245 Black Canadians with specialized training, pitch opportunities, and networking.
- Industry Access: Through partnerships with organizations and professionals like Morningstar, FBC has powered high-impact events about financial literacy, job fairs, and more.
Building the Future Together
FBC continues to expand its reach through four main programs designed to support youth at every stage of their professional journey:
- Youth Employment Skills (YES) Program: Providing direct job placements and essential training.
- Supports for Student Learning (SSL): Offering bursaries and guidance for post-secondary success.
- Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP): Guiding the next wave of business owners.
- Newcomers Program: Helping young newcomers navigate the Canadian job market and build professional resumes.
The Black Leadership Breakfast is an invitation to be part of this collaborative, multi-level approach to building a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
