Background
The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) and Skills For Life (SFL) are looking for passionate volunteers to join our 2026 Impact Gala Awards Review Committee. This volunteer committee will be responsible for choosing the winners and finalists for the Gala Awards.
Award Categories
The committee will review and evaluate applications across 11 distinct award categories:

| 11 | Content Creator Award | Excellence in content creation |
How It Works
- Application: Interested parties can apply to join the committee via our “Registration Form“.
- Notification: Volunteers chosen will be contacted by August 20th.
- Orientation: Volunteers can join a group orientation call between August 24th–28th or book an individual call with the coordinator(s).
- Committee Assignment: There will be at least 3 volunteers per category. A volunteer may serve on more than one committee if needed and desired.
- Review Materials: Volunteers will be assigned at least 1 award category to focus on, complete with a grading rubric and access to applicant submissions.
- Submission Deadline: Volunteers review applications independently, fill out the rubric, and submit results back to coordinators by September 11th at the latest (earlier submissions are encouraged).
Volunteer Terms & Requirements
- Time Commitment: Must be willing to commit 4–6 hours over 2 weeks to review and provide feedback on award applicants using the provided scaling rubric.
- Orientation: Must commit to joining a group or individual call to be orientated on the rubric and expectations.
- Governance: Must agree to sign the Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.
- Confidentiality: Must agree to keep everything confidential until publicly promoted.
- Conflict of Interest: Must declare any real or potential conflict of interest with any applicants in their committee (this does not automatically disqualify you to participate but ensures awareness to mitigate risk).
- Ineligibility: If you have applied for an award, you are not eligible for this committee.
- Independence: You cannot be paid or pressured to participate and/or choose any applicant.
